Wattenmeer
The Wadden Sea, the “muddy” sea that separates the mainland coast from the Frisian Islands archipelago, is a long, narrow channel that stretches from Belgium to Denmark. It is named so because of its shallow depths and because, whenever the phenomenon of low tide occurs, it becomes one vast expanse of mud. This sea, emptied of itself, becomes even crossable on foot: the more experienced “wadlopers” walk for kilometers and sometimes manage to reach islands that are normally only accessible by sea.
The landscapes featured in the collection belong to the North Frisian region in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, between the towns of Nordstrand, Husum, Sankt Peter-Ording, and Helgoland.
