How the south eastern part of Milan has changed

This partial photographic report, still in the making, aims to depict a vast area of Milan, located southeast of the city, which has experienced significant urban redevelopment since the post-Expo years. This redevelopment will culminate in the construction of the Olympic Village by 2026, the year when the Winter Olympic Games of the same name will be held. The Sky Group studies in Rogoredo, Fondazione Prada, and the Fastweb offices in Piazza Olivetti are just a few examples of the most representative projects of the ongoing transition.

The spirit of the project is multifaceted: the intention is to gather a series of images showcasing various examples of architectural interventions that are transforming the urban, architectural, and social fabric of the aforementioned area of Milan. This, in turn, triggers reflections on change, adaptation to change, and how the past relates to the present needs. For this reason, the collection also includes various elements that remain outside of these transformations – places and spaces that represent the diverse identity of a part of Milan, simultaneously dedicated to industry and the land: workshops, abandoned farmhouses around the ancient “Corpi Santi” (the rural outskirts of northern Italian cities), the large social housing buildings on Via San Dionigi, and the ALER houses in Corvetto.

As a Roman, I also aimed to capture, through the medium of photography, the fascination that the efficiency of Milan evokes in me, its dynamism in the constant activity of its construction sites.
